  • Dhanteras, also known as dhantrayodasi.
  • it is the first day that marks the festival of Diwali.
  • it celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha in the Hindu calendar month of Kartika.
  • the festival celebrated as "Lakshmi Puja " is performed in the evenings when tiny tiny diyas of clay are lit to drive away from the shadows of evil spirits.
  • the word Dhanteras is made of two-word Dhan which means wealth and teras which means the 13th day.

  • On the evening of Dhanteras devotees perform Lakshmi puja and light diyas 
  • it is said that buying a broomstick on Dhanteras signifies sweeping out poverty and misery from house 
  • people said that goddess Dhanventri was born on Dhanteras 

Yamraj ji
  • in that day peoples are buying the Diwali materials 
  • on Dhanteras devotees worship Lakshmi.
  • Dhanvantri is the god of Ayurveda.
  • at this festival, devotees also worship yamraj (god of the death).
